Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a term that gets thrown around quite a bit. Deep Tissue Massage is a massage of the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissues of the body. Deep Tissue Massage is used to provide a more therapeutic effect by massaging all layers from superficial (closer to the skin) to deep (closer to the bone). It relaxes the muscles, rids them of built up metabolic waste, and helps release adhesions between muscles and connective tissues. It can also be useful in preventing scar tissue build up from injuries to muscles and connective tissues. Deep Tissue is more like a treatment than a massage. This is one of the more misunderstood modalities, as people think of deep tissue as "Deep Swedish".

A form of Deep Tissue Massage that is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles. This invigorating experience uses the elbows, thumbs, forearms and fists to slowly work into the deep layers of muscle tissue. When performed correctly, Deep Tissue Massage is NOT painful. The deeper I work, the slower I go, resulting in a very deep but painless massage.

This type of treatment is applied to a more focused area, such as the upper or lower back, hip, neck, or shoulder. In a typical session, I would only work on the area you specify to gain the maximum relief you are seeking.
