Oncology Massage
If you are experiencing the challenges of cancer diagnosis, treatment and side effects, massage therapy can offer a unique way to relax and restore your healing resources.
This type of safe and effective massage is always tailored to you and can compliment medical treatment and support recovery by easing pain, reducing stress and providing emotional reassurance.
The unique customization of your treatment will be developed from your answers during the interview and from the intake form. This detailed intake will include:
- the kind of cancer you have (or had)
- your treatment history
- your current treatment
- any symptoms or side-effects you are experiencing and
- any medical devices or lymph node involvement you might have.
Depending on issues specific to your body, the position you lie in will be modified to accommodate any surgical or radiation sites or specific medical devices you might have. (Maybe you still have that port for chemotherapy infusions.) Most importantly, you will be met with caring kindness, respect and a recognition of who you are and what your own healing process is.
There have been studies done that suggest that massage:
- Relieves anxiety before and during uncomfortable procedures
- Helps reduce depression
- Helps to control and reduce nausea in patients in chemotherapy
- Improves energy levels
- Can help you sleep better and relax
- Can help ease fatigue and pain
- Can contribute to a better quality of life and well being
- Helps physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally
I am forever grateful to Tracy Walton for all the help, knowledge and motivation to experience this kind of work, as well as having a positive and meaningful effect on my massage practice. For more information on cancer, please check out my resources page.
